San José - Las Negras

Leaving San José and crossing the Pozo de los Frailes, where there is an old water wheel, you must take a detour on the right which goes to The Escullos.

This place characterises itself by fossilised dunes, which form a beauty cliff over the sea. Besides, it has a coast battery called San Felipe. Starting from here there is an earth road covered by peaks of Los Frailes (the ceiling of the Park) that borders the littoral to San Jose. However it cannot be crossed entirely by car. This area is especially admired by swimmers under water who have Cala Higuera, Cala de los Embarcaderos and Playa del Arco as some of their favourites places for snorkelling. Moving backwards to the road, you can go on up to the little fisher village of La Isleta del Moro, which delights with its seaworthy smell.

Coming up a steep slope, you arrive, after The Amatista viewpoint, to Rodalquilar. This village conserves the mining installations that remember the existence of gold in its mountain range, and presently it is the center of Environment Agency in the Park.

Crossing this place, there is a detour that takes to El Playazo. It has a castle situated on a spectacular cliff. Coming back to the asphalt, the road leads to Las Negras.
